Dawn Flaherty Lavelle
Biography
Ms. Lavelle, a principal of The Wynhurst Group, is a human resources consultant with over 16 years experience in helping organizations optimize performance by addressing their human capital needs. By delivering custom solutions, Ms. Lavelle enables clients to align their business and HR strategies to drive profitability, efficiency, and growth. Her areas of focus include organizational effectiveness and programs/processes for all stages of the employee life cycle from sourcing to separation. The spectrum of Ms. Lavelle’s diverse background runs from working with large, multi-national companies to small, non-profit organizations.
Ms. Lavelle’s leadership roles in human resources have allowed her to hone her expertise in solving workforce issues. As a Director of Human Resources at Fannie Mae and at Deloitte Consulting/Deloitte & Touche, Ms. Lavelle partnered with executives to define and implement human capital strategies. She led initiatives related to leadership development, employee training, succession planning, diversity, mentoring, and operational effectiveness. When the organizations were in growth mode, she designed successful recruiting and retention strategies. When realigning and redesigning divisions, she established transition strategies and communication plans to effectively either ramp up or ramp down employee numbers.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Lavelle held HR generalist roles where her responsibilities included recruiting, performance management, employee relations, compliance and compensation. In addition, while at Deloitte, she served as a Financial Analyst responsible for forecasting, budgeting, and project P&L. Previously at Mitsubishi International Corporation, Ms. Lavelle also worked in the areas of finance and international trade policy.
Ms. Lavelle earned her B.B.A. from James Madison University with majors in International Business and French. Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area, Ms. Lavelle has always had a passion for giving back to the community. She has been active in leading efforts to benefit local organizations, including serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer. Since 2000, Ms. Lavelle has served on the Board of Directors of Mentors Inc., an organization that pairs trained adult volunteer mentors with D.C. public high school students. Her responsibilities include serving as the Chair of the HR Committee.
